Who am i....?

I'm a pot of bonsai.

I am a conceptual artist, a medical student, and an education researcher.

This odd recipe traces my unique journey to overcome my personal obstacles. Restrictions made me unique, like a piece of bonsai.

I studied art to understand myself. Art was my garden full of freedom and therapy. Now I am learning medicine to heal others, as much as myself–like how the Korean therapeutic shamans used to do, historically.

Learning is healing. Think about trauma rehabilitation. On the neuronal level, it is a persistent unlearn-and-learn-new process. Learning sets anyone freer, I believe.

I want to set myself freer by pursuing art, psychiatry, and education. I thank my family for all the supports I had to allow my little miracle to happen.

Dad, mom, and my little brother, Thank you.

Education

2023-Current

University of Queensland

MD (Doctor of Medicine)

Currently UQ is my home for personal growth and professional development. The medical school is teaching me responsibilities, while my art school taught me freedom. Utilizing my multidisciplinary assets, I develop my unique niche as interdisciplinary artist and clinician.

2014-2018

Ontario College of Art & Design

BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts)

OCAD was my haven for integration and self-healing.

Majoring in Integrated Media formed my identity as an integrative learner and artist. Through experimenting with narratives and conflicts, I integrated my scattered talents and fragmented family relationship. I graduated with a thesis paper that explored a DSM-listed culture-specific psychiatric syndrome called Shin-byung신병, based on the research papers published in medical journals. The film component of the thesis project depicts a boy who chases his missing father with a frozen sword fish in his hand.

2007-2010

Marianopolis College

DEC (Diplôme d'études collégiales)

Marianopolis was my site of discovery and transformation. I entered the college as a pre-med science student. I met an art professor, Eva Brandl, who ignited my passion in art. ended up graduating the college with a multi-disciplinary major called C.A.L.L (Creative Arts, Literature and Languages)
